The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is the ideal candidate to accompany Bond, it's rugged, handsome and precise. It's ready for action. So, onto 007's wrist it went for the latest Bond flick, Skyfall, which hits theaters today. To celebrate the occasion, Omega has released a limited edition of the PO featuring a few visual nods to the Bond theme, and today we're going hands-on with Bond's latest ticker.
To begin, we must recall the last Bond limited edition watch from Omega, the 50th anniversary Seamaster we showed you earlier this year. Some of you felt that it missed the mark with its "007" dial and bullet casing endowed rotor. It would seem Omega has taken a step back and exercised a thoughtful restraint with their newest attempt at a Bond themed watch. You'd be hard pressed to spot the Bond connection at a glance, which you'd find at, where else but 7 o'clock.
The first thing you'll notice about this Bond PO is the grid structured black dial, meant to recall the grill of an iconic English sports car. This dial alone elevates the watch to level of interest beyond what you'd expect. In fact, you might prefer this watch to a regular PO in spite of its Bond connection. If you're a Bond fan however, it will just be icing on the cake.
The Bond cues can be found in a few places. Most notable is the applied "007" logo at 7 o'clock, which integrates into the dial without feeling forced. Adorning the rotor of the movement is an engraved "Skyfall 007" insignia, which is neither here nor there but it doesn't obstruct the view of the aggressive looking 8507 movement. Furthermore, the clasp of the bracelet sees the addition of the "007" logo to keep the Omega symbol company.
This watch is worth a closer look for a few reasons. The coaxial 8507 movement is easily on par with anything else in this price bracket, and it looks the business to boot. The case is sized just right at 42mm, and the inset ceramic bezel makes it appear a touch smaller still. If you've been around any Omega diving watch recently you know how amazing the lume is. Add in that great dial and you've got a pretty tempting package, Bond fan or not.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Skyfall Limited Edition will be built in XXXX/5007 numbered pieces. You can learn more about this watch right here.
